About

The Knights of Columbus were founded in 1882 by a 29-year old parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven. They grew into the largest lay organization of the Catholic Church. In the past decade the Knights have donated about $1 billion and have volunteered more than 400 million hours to charitable causes.

The St George Council supports the parish and community by hosting the annual St. George Carnival, hosting monthly coffee and pastry Sundays after Mass and cooking for many parish functions. The knights also contribute in both manpower and monetary gifts to the parish in addition to Connecticut Special Olympics, SARAH and college scholarship programs for local graduates.
