Knights of Columbus
About
The Knights of Columbus were founded in 1882 by a 29-year old parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven. They grew into the largest lay organization of the Catholic Church. In the past decade the Knights have donated about $1 billion and have volunteered more than 400 million hours to charitable causes.
The Knights of Columbus St. George Council supports the parish by hosting the annual St. George Carnival, as well as many parish functions and often hosting breakfasts after Sunday Masses. They also contribute both manpower and monetary gifts to the parish and to Connecticut Special Olympics, SARAH, and college scholarship programs for local graduates.
